Ask away...
Here are some questions that our clients often ask:
How much will this cost me?
Lawstop specialises in work that is funded by the Legal Aid Agency. If you qualify for legal aid, a contribution towards your legal fees may be required. This depends on your savings and capital.
So will you be eligible? This will depend on the type of legal problem you have, your personal finances and income, and whether you've had legal advice for the same issue in the past.
We can help assess your position, and apply for funding for you, without charge.

What is ‘Legal Help’?
Funding from the Legal Aid Agency comes in two stages.
Stage one is called Legal Help, which can pay for Lawstop to begin work on the legal issue you are experiencing.
Typically, this includes giving written and verbal advice, drafting letters to the body you are challenging, obtaining supporting evidence from third parties, and preparing witness statements and legal documents.

Then what is ‘Legal Aid’?
Often, the work we carry out in the first phase may be enough to achieve the outcome you’ve wanted. But if not, and further legal action is needed, a second stage comes into play.
We can then apply for Legal Aid to fund more specialist advice on the strength of your case.
Depending on our advice, it may be necessary to make an application to the court. In other words, to put your case before a judge.

Who will be dealing with my case?
We assign a qualified legal professional to your case, chosen for their experience and track record in the area of law you need.
He or she is your single point of contact, and will get to know you and your aims personally. They will provide specialist advice, plan the legal strategy for your case and be able to draw on the full resources of our firm. Our teams are made up of caseworkers, paralegals and solicitors, bringing a wealth of experience to your case.

Why should I choose Lawstop?
We think we’re a little different because our legal professionals have made a deliberate career choice to specialise in vital social issues.
It is very satisfying, both as lawyers but also as people, to use our skills to put wrongs right. These range from homelessness, an illegal deportation or a child being failed by an education authority, to any decision by government or a local authority that you feel is wrong. For example, a policy that discriminates against you.
If that sounds like your own issue, you’ll find we bring an unusual determination to your case – and a track record of proven success.
